Forest skis have a special place in Finnish outdoor culture. They are the fastest and most efficient way of moving across the snowy frontier. Finns have hunted, fished and waged war throughout history with skis on their feet and have become famous for their skill. There is something truly peaceful and inspiring when you step into the arctic wilderness of North Karelia with traditional forest skis on your feet and take in the nature all around you, as you glide silently through the forest. Magnificent views of the easternmost frontier in Europe will give you memories to last a lifetime.

Our trip starts in the morning, when our guides will pick you up from your Hotel or pick-up location. From the pick-up there is a short trip to where we will start the adventure. At the starting point, you will receive your own frontier skis and the rest of the necessary equipment. After fitting the skis and learning some basic exercises, we will start our journey into the wild. Our guides speak fluent English and are all skilled skiers and outdoorsmen with years of experience with skis on their feat in the backcountry!

North Karelia is well known for its wild life and we have a good chance to spot different animal tracks during our travels, if we are quiet enough, maybe we will even catch them in the act. The most common animals in the area are Mountain Hare, Mink, Lynx, Wolverine and in some areas, Wolf. The skiing trip will not be too difficult, but there are some hills on our trail that will test you. The skiing distance is approximately 3-4 km in total and during the trip we will take a break to enjoy our surroundings and a quick snack with a hot drink.

After the trip we will return to our car and our guides will take you back to your Hotel or drop off location. 

Program:

10:00-10:45 You will meat your guides in the pick-up location. Transportation to location begins

10:45-11:00 Fitting the skies

11:00-14:15 Frontier skiing trip, lunch break at 12:15am

14:15-15:00 Transportation to drop-off location
